When we got there, on Saturday afternoon,we saw that boats were anchoring south of the harbour; something Chris had not seen before and we knew that it was very busy and suddenly realised that the ARC was due to set off about now and as it usually goes on a Sunday we thought that it was almost certainly due off the next day. |
We anchored south of the marina but at about 9.00am on Sunday we were asked to move to the north so that we were not in the way of the ARC boats. We managed to find a space and settled down to watch all the boats leave. It was quite amazing as boat after boat came out of the marina entrance – we think there were about 200 - and loads of other local boats left their private marina berths to watch! Unfortunately the weather turned and became very overcast. We had seen a military vessel leave and hoped there would be a gun fired but I only heard dimly a hooter sounding the off at 1.00 o’clock. It's not officially a race but some 'keen' boats do! The boats were a fair distance away but slowly they started to disappear – then we had a tremendous rain squall and could see nothing!!!! |
It was a lovely evening but during the night the winds really picked up and Tuesday was pretty uncomfortable and a bit worrying with the dinghy in the water behind us. Wednesday was not much better and it did not calm down until the evening but at least we got a peaceful night!
We went ashore yesterday, booked in so we could have a shower and use the marina facilities but I nearly lost my memory sticks so could not update the site! Luckily I found them in the ladies showers, so here's the update!!
